About Roderic
Roderic Ferguson, aged 81, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2024, at Hospice Huronia in Penetanguishene. A beloved husband to Frances (Fran) Ferguson for over 54 years, he was a devoted father to James and Katherine and a proud grandfather to Miles, Erica, Alexandre, and Simon.
Born in Toronto and raised in Fergus, Ontario, Rod developed a strong work ethic and people skills early in life. After excelling academically at the University of Waterloo and Osgoode Hall Law School, he built a distinguished legal career in Midland, Ontario, where he was widely respected for his advocacy, mentorship, and community service. His many honours included appointments as Queen’s Counsel, Specialist in Civil Litigation, and recipient of both the Law Society Bicentennial Award of Merit and the Law Society Medal.
A dedicated Rotarian and lifelong learner, Rod earned a master’s degree in Alternative Dispute Resolution and later completed his Honours B.A. in his 70s. Known for his warmth, curiosity, and generosity, he cherished time with family and friends, especially at the family cottage on Bone Island, where he created lasting memories with loved ones.
