Application for Canadian Visitor Visa

Some foreign nationals are required to have a Canadian Visitor Visa if they wish to travel or visit Canada. Depending on your citizenship, you may or may not need a temporary resident visa. A visitor visa is an official document stating that you meet the requirements to enter Canada (also called a temporary resident visa, TRV).

Requirements:

You are required to make an application to the Canadian visa office before you travel to Canada. You can apply for a visitor visa online or on paper at a Visa Application Centre (VAC). You will be required to meet the following requirements:

• Valid travel document, such as passport;
• Satisfy an immigration officer that you have strong ties to your country of origin, and you will leave Canada at the end of your stay;
• Proof of funds for your stay;
• Be in good health (a medical examination may be requested);
• No criminal record;
• You may require a letter of invitation and purpose of travel;
• Complete itinerary may be required;

A minor mistake or an incomplete application can lead to rejection of your application or can ruin your travel plans. Therefore, it is important to carefully review and attach proper documents before the submission. Once your application is approved you will be asked to submit your passport.

How long you can stay: Most visitors can stay for up to 6 months in Canada, unless the border service officer put a stamp for less than 6 months on your passport. It is important that you inform them about the duration of your stay clearly and honestly at the port of entry.

Extend Stay: If your status in Canada is expiring, you can apply for visitor record/ extension to extend your stay through an application.

Can you Work?:     As a visitor you are not allowed to work in Canada. You need a work permit to work in Canada.

Cost:  A visitor visa fee is $100 together with a biometric fee of $85, if you are asked to provide biometrics.
